Gainesville, GA (August 13, 2024) – A fatal motor vehicle accident reported in the Gainesville area claimed one person’s life. The accident occurred just after 4:00 p.m. on August 10.
Reports from the Georgia State Patrol show that multiple vehicles collided on State Route 53 along Winder Highway. Authorities arrived at the scene and immediately shut down the roadway near the Ingles grocery store. Upon further investigation, authorities determined that a Honda HRV, driven by 63-year-old Juan de Dios Ramirez, was heading eastbound on the roadway when it collided with a GMC Acadia. The Acadia, which was driven by 52-year-old Kyle Fendlay, flipped over.
A Toyota Camry, which was driven by 21-year-old Andy Mijangos, was traveling behind the Acadia and swerved to avoid the wreck. As a result, the vehicle went off the north shoulder and collided with a curb. Ramirez suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Fendlay, his wife, and four children in his vehicle were all transported to area hospitals for emergency care. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
We hope the injured victims recover quickly.
We offer our sympathies to the family of Juan de Dios Ramirez.
