Rome, GA (August 11, 2024) – More than a dozen people were injured as a result of a bus accident involving a drunk driver. The accident occurred at around 10:45 p.m. on August 8.
Official reports show that a car crashed into a bus that was carrying students from Rome High School during the evening hours. The impact of the crash caused the bus to roll over and become entangled in power lines in the area of Highway 101 and Old Rome Road. Authorities arrived at the scene and shut down the highway between Old Rome Road and Doc Moats Road while assisting. A total of 15 people on the bus, including three adults, were injured. The victims were rendered aid at the scene and transported to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center for further care. The driver of the car, later identified as 21-year-old Jeyonna Underwood, was taken into police custody, where she faces charges of DUI endangerment of a child under age 14, DUI, and failure to maintain Lane.
