Sylvester, GA (July 30, 2024) – Several people were injured as a result of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Friday in Worth County. At around 1030 a.m. on July 26, emergency officials were called to the scene of an accident on Doe Hill Road.
Reports show that a group of individuals, including two firefighters, were attending a funeral in the Sylvester area. For unknown reasons, a Dodge 1500 pickup truck went off the roadway, and through the parking lot of the Antioch Baptist Church, the Dodge collided with six vehicles and three pedestrians.
Multiple people were injured as a result of the crash. Two firefighters out of the city of Albany, identified as Ricky Thompson and Danny Hancock, were both airlifted and flown to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for emergency medical care. Two additional victims were transported by ambulance to an area hospital. Authorities were told that the driver of the pickup truck, 61-year-old William Perkins, was having a coughing fit and passed out while behind the wheel. At this time, the incident is being investigated.
