Tifton, GA (August 2, 2024) – A motor vehicle accident reported in the Tifton area sent multiple people to area hospitals with injuries. The Georgia State Patrol and firefighters were called to the scene of the accident on July 31.
Police reports indicate that an individual was driving on 3rd Street in a Toyota Camry while using a cell phone and not wearing a seatbelt. The driver was spotted by the police and pulled over by a trooper. The trooper tried to question them after noticing the smell of alcohol and marijuana on the driver. However, the driver fled the scene and made several turns. As the vehicle passed through a red light at the intersection of Magnolia Drive and 2nd Street, it collided with a Cadillac. The impact of the crash caused both vehicles to spin out and strike two additional vehicles.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested and transported to an area hospital with injuries. Five people in the Cadillac, including four children, were injured as well. One additional driver was also injured in the crash. All of the victims were transported to local hospitals for further medical care and evaluation. At this time, the incident is under investigation.
