In a bizarre twist, according to WSB-TV Atlanta, during the early morning hours of April 14, a woman was arrested after stealing a news van with reporter inside.

A news reporter and photographer were setting up equipment to investigate a car accident in midtown. When the photographer got out of the news van to set up his camera, 38-year-old Seniqua Lunsford jumped in to the van and drove away. Lunsford was at the scene of the accident because she was one of the original parties involved.

According to the article, โ€œCBS reporter Iyani Hughes was still in the back of the van editing video when it all happened. As soon as she noticed what was going on, police said Hughes shouted for help.โ€

Luckily, officers were already on the scene from the car accident. They quickly followed the stolen van. The chase ended only a few miles away when the van crashed. The article goes on to say that, โ€œHughes, who is pregnant, was thankfully not hurt. Police arrested Lunsford, who was also pregnant. She was taken to the hospital with an injured arm. Itโ€™s unclear if the injury was from the first or second crash.โ€

Lunsford will be charged with kidnapping, amongst other likely charges. Officers on the scene said that Lunsford was acting storage, possibly emotionally disturbed, intoxicants or drugs.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in 2018, 20.5 million people aged 16 or older drove under the influence of alcohol in the past year and 12.6 million drove under the influence of illicit drugs. This is a reminder for us all to drive safely, knowing the effects of reckless driving.
